The speculation surrounding this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a desert monolith. The secret has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words suggests that the team might be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is classic fantasy, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.
In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a particular class or origin with a unique decision path.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Most missions can be approached in diverse methods, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
